Wayward Irish Spirits

Fossa Road, Maulagh, Killarney, V93 Y1K7

Wayward Irish Spirits is based on the Lakeview Estate on the shores of Lough Leane in Fossa, Killarney. They are the makers of The Liberator Irish Whiskey, which celebrates the achievements of Maurice's forebear, Daniel O'Connell, often hailed as the greatest ever Irishman.

Launched at the end of February this year, after 4 years of planning, they produce distinctive modern Whiskeys inspired by the O'Connell family history, their sometimes Wayward attitude and their stunning setting.

The Liberator is their range of bonded Whiskeys. They commission young spirit from Ireland's finest distilleries to add to their growing library of flavours from which they produce unique new expressions. These are matured further, then finished, blended and bottled on the Estate. Their first Whiskeys have a strong Port influence from their finish in really fresh Port barrels, reconnecting with the family's trading history. All their Whiskeys are produced in small batches and bottled at 46% ABV; they're not chill filtered and with no added colour.

Alongside this, they grow their own barley on the Estate, which is distilled into Pot Still spirit. They laid down their first casks in March 2019 and they're already showing great promise. A small distillery will follow in 2024.
